GLCU's Steve Bugg Appointed to Lake County Community Foundation Board

Lake County Community Foundation (LCCF) appointed Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) President and CEO Steve Bugg to serve on their board of directors. Since 2018, Steve has been leading GLCU and the credit union’s efforts to support the community.

Throughout his tenure at GLCU, Steve has served Northern Illinois through various philanthropic efforts. In relationship to LCCF, Steve joined the Civic Leadership Committee to support their planning process to achieve operational and financial independence. While on the committee, Steve assisted with the process of bringing on William Blair as their new investment management partner.  In addition, he aided LCCF on their Crisis Relief Committee in reviewing and awarding grants related to the Pandemic and the need to support the greatest community needs within Lake County.

The LCCF began in 2003 as a group of residents who met to aid the community and provide a better life for future generations. One of GLCU’s member promises is to listen and be responsive to needs. By working alongside the LCCF, GLCU is able to apply that promise to the community as well. GLCU contributed $90,000 to LCCF to aid the community in 2020 in response to COVID-19. $60,000 was given to the Lake County Community Crisis Relief Fund for housing and food relief. This fund pulls resources together from funders which responds to critical needs for nonprofit funding within the community during financial hardship as a result of unanticipated emergencies. The other $30,000 was contributed to the Small Business Growth Initiative. The Small Business Growth Initiative aids in helping grow local businesses owned by women and people of color.
