Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) is pleased to announce the addition of Fred Campobasso to their executive team. Campobasso re-joined GLCU in early October 2022 after a brief tenure serving as Chief Lending Officer at SRP Federal Credit Union in South Carolina and Georgia.

In his position with GLCU, Campobasso is responsible for the strategic direction of GLCU’s lending department including products and services that help empower local individuals and businesses to achieve their financial goals.

“My vision is that we create generational wealth by providing credit at reasonable rates and educate our communities on the value of good financial health.  I would expect that our efforts transcend financial services and that, when people think of GLCU, they view us as a community partner,” Campobasso said.

Campobasso references Financial Empowerment, one of GLCU’s core values, referred to as their ‘Standards of Greatness.’ GLCU promotes products and services that can help members better their financial picture, as well as volunteers and gives back in their impacted communities with great zeal. Over 60% of GLCU employees donate their time to helping their communities outside of regular business hours to ensure that their communities are better places to live and work.

Campobasso has decades of professional experience in the financial services industry, first starting his banking career as a teller in a supermarket branch for a different financial institution, and working his way up through the ranks over time.

“I’ve worked with great leaders who believed in me and provided me with the opportunities to learn and grow. Having been in various roles throughout my career, I understand what my colleagues are experiencing.” Says Campobasso when asked about his path to his current position.

As a servant leader, Campobasso believes that caring about the people you work with creates a work environment that retains good employees.  “Be good to people and they will be good to you.”

Campobasso holds a Masters’ Certificate in Strategy and Execution from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Lake Forest, IL, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
