Great Lakes Credit Union is dedicated to helping our members achieve their financial goals and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Over the past few months, GLCU has received special notice of our efforts from our peers and partners.
The Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) recognized GLCU for our dedication to the “people helping people” philosophy and for building bridges for our staff, members, and communities with three state-wide awards:
1st place winner of the Desjardins Award (Adult: $1 billion+ category) - recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for all ages. Through GLCU’s Housing and Financial Counseling program, our HUD-certified counselors incorporate all the elements of education, training, and information from one-on-one counseling to monthly educational workshops to help members of our communities become financially empowered and productive.
1st place winner of the Louise Herring Award ($1 billion+ category) - awarded for internal programs and services that benefit membership. Through our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program, GLCU ensures that DEI is ingrained in our culture, both internally and externally. It is an integral part in shaping the interactions among staff and with members and in developing products and services that fill the specific needs of their diverse membership.
2nd place winner of the Dora Maxwell Award ($1 billion+ category) – awarded for social responsibility within the community. GLCU’s “Fun At The Zoo” project helped to focus on and build awareness of the Brookfield Zoo, a major contributor to the health of the animal world and to the health of the local economy, helping to strengthen the structure of local communities as well.
CUNA National 1st place winner - Each of the ICUL awards was then submitted into the Credit Union National Association’s national contest and GLCU was selected by CUNA as the NATIONAL 1st Place Winner of the Louise Herring Award ($1B + category) in recognition of our DEI program.
