Hello, I'm Steve Bugg, the new President and CEO of Great Lakes Credit Union, your credit union.
I would like to take a few moments to introduce myself and then I will talk about what you can expect from your credit union going forward.
I would like to start by saying I am very humbled and privileged to be selected to serve as the next President and CEO of GLCU by the dedicated Board of Directors and to uphold the tradition that William E. Elliott, President of Local 167, started 80 years ago.
Prior to coming into Great Lakes Credit Union, I served as Executive Vice-President of Heritage Federal Credit Union in Newburgh, Indiana.
Throughout my credit union career; I have worked in and / or was responsible for many functional areas and always enjoyed getting to know our members.
I am married and am about to become a Grandfather for the first time this fall. My wife and I are very familiar with the Chicagoland area as my wife was born in Chicago and we previously lived and worked in the suburbs.
We still have family that resides here.
I firmly believe in giving back to the communities we serve.
I have been heavily involved in volunteerism serving in leadership and committee member roles with local non-profit organizations and I do not see that changing anytime soon.
You will find me at our branches, at upcoming credit union volunteer events, at community partner “meet and greets” and you have my personal commitment that Great Lakes Credit Union will continue to support your local worthwhile organizations.
Earlier I mentioned I would talk about what you can expect from Great Lakes Credit Union in the future. As our industry continues to evolve and change what I can guarantee will not change, is that GLCU will always put you, our member, first. In fact, in every decision we make, GLCU follows our Member’s First Philosophy. We’ve been doing this for the last 80-years and will continue to do so.

You will continue to receive first-rate, competitively priced loan products, including our mortgages, Visa credit cards (and we do offer both rewards and low rate cards), Home Equity, and auto loans.
We strive to continue to build valued relationships and remain your trusted financial partner each and every day. Mr. Elliott made the promise to serve in the member’s best interest by putting them first, allowing them to borrow money at a reasonable rate and to have a safe-and-sound place to save. Guess what? Those same values hold true even today.
The visionary Board and dedicated forward-thinking employees of GLCU have guided this fine credit union to success for the last eight decades.
I look forward to leading the team that plots the strategy that ensures Great Lakes Credit Union is successful for many future generations.
I do ask a couple things. I would ask that you continue to put your trust in us, and look to GLCU for all of your financial needs in the future. I would also ask that when the opportunity arises to mention Great Lakes Credit Union to your family, friends and co-workers as a great local, full-service financial institution, you do so.
