FRAUDULENT E-MAIL
The NCUA has announced that there is a fraudulent e-mail scam circulating, claiming that members will receive a $50 deposit upon completion of a survey.  The email sends the member to a false website and requests the members account, card and personal information for the $50 deposit.  DO NOT click on the website contained in the email or supply any of your information to this scam.

Please be advised that the NCUA will never ask credit union members or the general public for personal account or personally identifiable information as part of a survey. Any e-mail that alleges to be from NCUA and asks for account information is fraudulent and should be treated as suspicious.  Members affected by this scam should forward the entire e-mail message to Phishing@ncua.gov

If you have been affected by this or any other similar scam please call us locally at (847) 578-7000 or call toll free at (800) 982-7850.  (10/10)

  • Text Message
  • Internet
  • Web Connect
  • Mail

If you believe you have received a request for your personal information that is not legitimate, please do not respond to the requests, click on links, or open attachments. RECENTLY REPORTED ALERTS!
  • We have recently been notified of an email phishing scam. The phishing email warns the recipient about a problem with a transaction and provides a link to a site that will supposedly help solve the issue. Instead, a malicious website downloads the Gameover malware. Gameover employs the traditional and configurable ‘man-in-the-browser’ injection technique where it can access the user’s bank details before they are encrypted and after they are decrypted. If you have any questions regarding your account, please contact us directly at (847) 578-700 or (800) 982-7850. (01/12)

  • Some members and non-members have received phone calls from an automated recording stating that their GLCU card has been turned off because of a “security breach". The recording requests the caller to press one or call 1-718-683-3104. This number has been reported by several institutions as fraudulent. If the caller presses one the automated system then requests a social security number and/or a card number. Do not supply your personal information to this source. (01/12)

  • We have recently been notified of a telephone scam impersonating Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU). GLCU will never initiate a call asking for your complete debit or credit card number, pin number, or CVV. If you feel at any time a call from GLCU is not legitimate, please disconnect the call and contact us back immediately. Always review your account via your statement, Web Connect, Touch Tone Teller, or Mobile Banking. If you ever notice any unauthorized transactions on your account please block your card(s) immediately through our automated system 1-800-982-7850 and contact our call center or visit one of our many branches during normal business hours for a replacement card. (6/11)

  • We have been notified of a recent data breach at a local merchant. Please review your account via your statement, WebConnect, Touch Tone Teller, or Mobile Banking. If you notice any unauthorized transactions on your account please block your card(s) immediately through our automated system 1-800-982-7850 and contact our call center or visit one of our branches during normal business hours for a replacement card. (7/10)

  • While on the GLCU website, some members stated that a pop-up appeared on their personal computer asking if they would like to take part in a survey about GLCU. Once the survey was completed, the pop-up offered a "free gift" for completing the survey and that all the member had to pay for was shipping and handling. At this time GLCU is currently NOT offering any promotions for free gifts upon taking an online survey. If you receive this type of pop-up message call us locally at (847) 578-7000 or call toll free at (800) 982-7850. (1/10)

  • Some members who were attempting to log into Web Connect stated that they were asked to enter confidential credit card, debit card or ATM card information in order to verify or confirm their identity.  Based on the information the member sent to GLCU and by working with our processor we have concluded that this is a phishing attempt by a virus or a Trojan that is on the member’s personal computer.  GLCU’s website has not been compromised and to resolve this type of attack contact your antivirus software company and call us locally at (847) 578-7000 or call toll free at (800) 982-7850.
