Kids 1st Health Fair as Community Volunteer Day for Great Lakes Credit Union

North Chicago, IL The recent success of the 17th annual Kids 1st Health Fair at Miguel Juarez Middle School in Waukegan was well recognized by the entire staff of Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) who designated the day as their First Annual All-Staff Community Volunteer Day.

Several GLCU volunteers worked the event last year and when the Lake County Health Department put out this year's request for volunteers, GLCU had already decided that this would be the perfect event for all staff to come together and show their commitment to their local community.  GLCU closed their branches early and 120 employees and Board members helped staff volunteer positions throughout the day.  GLCU volunteers were easily recognizable as they all wore blue volunteer t-shirts, the cost of which was partially donated by Kennedy's Creative Awards in Waukegan.  Additionally GLCU contributed monetarily towards the free backpacks given to all the kids, handed out free water to families waiting outside in the long hot lines and held a raffle, the lucky winner receiving a family pack of tickets to Six Flags, generously donated by Six Flags.

Vikki Kaiser, GLCU's President/CEO was among the volunteers.  "GLCU was proud to work closely with the Lake County Health Department and be a part of this extremely rewarding day.  Our staff was very appreciative of the humbling experience and reminded of the fact that they should not take for granted things like accessible and quality healthcare for themselves and their families."
