Tuesday, February 2, 2010 North Chicago, IL – What started out a year ago as a simple idea of General Motors giving credit union members a discount on new auto purchases and having credit unions promote the program, has created over 215,000 incremental GM and Chrysler auto sales nationwide and $3.3 billion in car loans for credit unions in 2009.
Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) is one of approximately 90 credit unions in Illinois promoting this money saving program to its members. The current credit union member discount for a new GM vehicle is supplier pricing on top of the most current incentives and Chrysler offers pricing 1% below dealer invoice on all 2009 and most 2010 Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck vehicles. Buyers must receive a “GM authorized code” or “Chrysler control number” from their credit union to activate any discounts. If they are not already a member of a credit union, they can become one in order to receive the discount.
The vision for the program is to continue to have credit unions promote domestic-based companies – especially auto companies – and give value propositions to credit union members, while supporting the U.S. economy in the process.
The “Invest in America” program has expanded beyond car discounts for credit union members to include special savings from Thor Industries (RV manufacturer), Allied Moving and Storage, FTD, Sprint and others and will continue to branch out
