Sunday, November 22, 2009 GLCU Staff Volunteers at “Giving Dinner”
The Sunday before Thanksgiving, a number of staff members took time out to help the less fortunate on behalf of GLCU.
The “Giving Dinner” was organized by the Lake County Forest Preserve District and hosted at the Greenbelt Cultural Center. The event offered a free holiday buffet to approximately 200 low-income and homeless individuals who were encouraged to attend by local missions and shelters. Live entertainment, storytelling for the kids, and singing performances were provided for those who might otherwise have no food, companionship or celebration during the holidays.
The many coats, warm clothing items and children’s books generously donated by GLCU members and staff were distributed to all individuals and families who were in need.
Especially in this harsh economic climate, staff felt privileged to be able to give back to those in need and receive a smile or gesture of gratitude in return.
