GLCU Raises Money for Relay for Life

North Chicago, IL – At Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) it is all about giving back to the communities in which their members live and work. So this year the employees voluntarily agreed to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life 2010 Drive for Hope in Lake County, IL.

Ninety-two GLCU staff members made up 6 Lake County Region teams for 6 different Relay events and the Credit Union was recognized as a purple level corporate sponsor for their level of commitment.

After conducting numerous fundraising bake sales, book sales, car washes, garage sales, participating in $5 dress down days at the Credit Union, and collecting donations from family, friends and members, GLCU employees were proud to present the American Cancer Society Relay for Life with a check for $27,243.

Vikki Kaiser, GLCU’s President/CEO, who was also a member of one of the teams, said that: “GLCU Relay team members gave up a lot of their free time in the evenings and on weekends over the past 3 months organizing fundraising activities leading up to their team events.  They all gave a great deal of themselves culminating with walking the Relay event, where they walked around a track for 12 hours straight.  In every instance, their fundraising results surpassed their team goals and everyone should be very proud of their contributions to the world’s largest movement to defeat cancer once and for all.”
