Kids 1st Health Fair a Success! | | Wednesday, August 11, 2010 The recent success of the 18th annual Kids 1st Health Fair at Miguel Juarez Middle School in Waukegan was well recognized by staff of Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU), who designated August 4th as their second annual All-Staff Community Volunteer Day.
GLCU closed their branches for the day and 98 employees, members of Senior Management, and Board members held varied volunteer positions throughout the day that allowed children from low-income families to receive school physicals, immunizations, and dental screenings required to start school. GLCU volunteers were easily recognizable among the nearly 700 nurses, doctors, dentists, lab technicians, medical students, and community volunteers, as they all wore blue volunteer t-shirts, the cost of which was partially donated by Kennedy’s Creative Awards in Waukegan. Additionally, GLCU made a cash donation towards the free backpacks and school supplies given to children who received the services and brought their mascot, Kirby Kangaroo, to entertain the kids and families.
Vikki Kaiser, GLCU’s President/CEO was in attendance. “GLCU was proud to work closely with the Lake County Health Department and be a part of this extremely rewarding day again this year. Our staff was very appreciative of the humbling experience and reminded of the fact that they should not take for granted things like accessible and quality healthcare for themselves and their families.”
