GLCU Is Out and About in the Community! | | Tuesday, May 15, 2012 GLCU’s involvement in community programs and youth financial education has gotten off to a fast start in 2012! Keep reading to find out some of the events GLCU has been a part of.
Through a combination of “Mad City Money” budgeting simulations at local area high schools, “Biz Kid$” financial education programs at middle schools, and GLCU’s attendance at high school career fairs, we’ve reached over 1,030 young adults in the community and the year isn’t even half over! Providing youth with free educational events helps them learn good habits and become more responsible with their finances. as they progress into the working world.

For the 6th consecutive year, GLCU was an official partner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, hosting financial education events during the 10th Annual Money Smart Week, April 21-28. This week also coincided with CUNA’s Youth Savings Challenge with this year’s theme “Credit Union Super Savers”. During the Savings Challenge week, GLCU opened 19 new youth accounts and acquired 186 youth deposits for over $20,000.

On April 27th, GLCU hosted the 2nd Annual Earth Day Expo at Gurnee Mills mall. Visitors to the GLCU table were greeted with eco-friendly cloth grocery bags and USB drives made from recycled plastic. They were also invited to talk with participating vendors about how their businesses promote sustainable and green environments. A big thanks to the participants: ComEd, Auto Parts City, Waukegan Tire, Lake County Forest Preserve, Goodwill, Wetlands Research, and Stormwater Management.
